Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury Accuses Mamata Banerjee of Using All Means to Defeat Him in Baharampur

Kolkata, April 6: Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the Congress candidate contesting from the Baharampur assembly seat in West Bengal, has expressed growing concerns about his chances of winning. He accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of leaving no stone unturned to ensure his defeat.

Mamata Banerjee recently conducted a foot march in the Baharampur constituency, garnering significant public support. Chowdhury remarked that, to his knowledge, Banerjee had never organized a roadshow in Murshidabad or Baharampur before. He questioned her sudden electoral campaign in the area after serving as Chief Minister three times, suggesting that it indicates her willingness to do anything to defeat him.

Referring to previous Lok Sabha elections, Chowdhury alleged that the TMC chief instigated riots to undermine his campaign. He expressed concerns that a conspiracy might be underway this time under Banerjee’s direction, stating, “I believe they could resort to anything to defeat me in Baharampur.”

Chowdhury acknowledged that conducting foot marches is a right for all parties and leaders, and he found no fault in Banerjee’s recent march. However, he raised questions about her sudden interest in campaigning in the area now.

As he began his campaign on Sunday from Mohan Roy Para Chowrasta in Ward No. 5 of Baharampur Municipality, Chowdhury faced opposition from TMC workers. He primarily campaigned on foot, accompanied by local Congress leaders and party workers. However, he encountered chants of “Go Back” at three different locations. Additionally, on Saturday morning, he reportedly faced obstacles from TMC activists.

Due to the ongoing protests, Chowdhury is starting to feel that his support base in this assembly constituency is weakening.
