New Delhi, April 9: In a significant move to support domestic airlines amid the ongoing crisis in West Asia and the rising global prices of aviation fuel (ATF), Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu has announced a 25% reduction in landing and parking fees for domestic flights for three months.
This decision aims to lower operational costs for airlines and alleviate the burden of rising airfares on passengers. Previously, the government had only passed on 25% of the ATF price increase to airlines, despite global ATF prices surging by over 100%.
Minister Ram Mohan Naidu stated, “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, our goal is to make air travel affordable and convenient for ordinary passengers. Despite current global challenges, we have ensured that domestic airlines do not face excessive burdens. By reducing landing and parking fees by 25%, we are providing further relief to airlines, helping to stabilize airfares.”
The Ministry of Civil Aviation has directed the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India (AERA) to implement an immediate 25% reduction in landing and parking fees for domestic flights at all major airports. This concession will remain in effect for three months, and AERA has already issued the necessary orders.
Similarly, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has been instructed to reduce landing and parking fees by 25% at all non-major airports. This relief is expected to save airlines approximately ₹400 crore at major airports over the three-month period.
The minister emphasized that the ministry is in continuous contact with all stakeholders, including airlines, airport operators, and AERA. Further necessary actions will be taken as the situation is reviewed.
The government asserts that these measures will help maintain the viability of the domestic aviation sector, ensuring passengers benefit from safe and affordable air travel. This decision marks a crucial step in strengthening and making the Indian aviation sector resilient amid unprecedented global circumstances. The Ministry of Civil Aviation has clarified that it will continue to implement necessary relief measures as conditions evolve.
