Ahmedabad, April 9: The Ahmedabad police have successfully dismantled a notorious interstate gang involved in mobile phone theft. Two suspects were arrested with 21 stolen phones from Jharkhand.

DCP Roopal Solanki of Ahmedabad City Zone 3 informed reporters that the suspects, Amit Mahato and Badal Mahato, were apprehended around February 16 with nine stolen phones. During interrogation, they revealed that a man named Raghu was orchestrating their operations. The gang had stolen phones from various individuals at the Geet Mandir bus stop.

DCP Solanki stated that they had been tracking Raghu since then. The police managed to capture Raghu Mahato and Vikram Mahato, who were responsible for gathering the gang members for theft. The group typically targeted crowded areas to steal phones. They had flown in from Jharkhand specifically to commit thefts during the IPL matches. Police also recovered IPL tickets from their possession.

On April 4, during a match at the Ahmedabad stadium, the gang stole two phones. They were also present at IPL matches in Bengaluru, where they stole two additional phones. Their thefts spanned across various locations in Gujarat, including Anand and Mehsana. In total, the police recovered 21 phones from them. The gang typically left a location after stealing 25 to 30 phones.

DCP Solanki explained that after stealing the phones, the suspects transported them back to Jharkhand, where they were sold in local markets. The parts of the phones were also sold separately in different locations. This gang operated by traveling from Jharkhand to execute their thefts.
