Ahmedabad, July 1: Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) announced on Wednesday that it has surpassed the milestone of 20 gigawatts of operational renewable energy capacity. This achievement makes it the first renewable energy company in India to reach this level through greenfield development.
According to the statement, Adani Green produces over 52 billion units of clean energy annually, contributing approximately 3% to India’s total electricity consumption.
Sagar Adani, Executive Director of AGEL, stated, “Crossing the 20 gigawatt mark demonstrates what disciplined work and long-term vision can achieve. Today, AGEL, along with its efficient team and long-standing partners, generates renewable electricity equivalent to the annual power needs of Mumbai and New Delhi. This strengthens the country’s energy security and accelerates the shift towards clean energy.”
This milestone was achieved within a decade of launching AGEL’s first renewable energy project in Kamuthi, Tamil Nadu, making it the largest and fastest-growing greenfield renewable energy capacity in India.
In the fiscal year 2026, the company added 5,051 megawatts of capacity, the highest annual addition of renewable capacity by any company outside China.
AGEL’s operational portfolio includes approximately 14.2 gigawatts of solar, 2.7 gigawatts of wind, and 3.3 gigawatts of wind-solar hybrid capacity.
Additionally, AGEL has launched a 3.55 gigawatt Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), the largest deployment outside China and one of the fastest completed projects globally.
Sagar Adani emphasized, “As the share of renewable energy in India’s power mix increases, battery storage is becoming crucial for providing reliable and on-demand clean power.”
AGEL plans to add 10 gigawatts of battery storage in fiscal year 2027 and aims to expand its portfolio to 50 gigawatts over the next five years to meet the target of 50 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030.
