Bishkek, September 1: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with President Thongloun Sisoulith of Laos and President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan on Tuesday during the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations.
PM Modi shared updates via X, stating, “I had a productive meeting with President Thongloun Sisoulith of Laos during the SCO summit in Bishkek. We had a fruitful discussion on enhancing our mutual ties.”
He also highlighted his meeting with President Rahmon of Tajikistan. In a post on X, he noted, “I had a good conversation with President Emomali Rahmon. India is eager to enhance cooperation with Tajikistan across various sectors.”
Earlier in the day, PM Modi participated in the 26th meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of State in Bishkek. In his address at the summit, he reiterated India’s stance that all disputes should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy, rather than warfare.
He remarked, “The crisis in West Asia has shown that conflicts in one region do not remain contained. They impact global energy security, maritime trade, and supply chains. The Global South bears the brunt of these consequences. Therefore, India advocates that all tensions and wars should be resolved not on the battlefield but through dialogue and diplomacy.”
Emphasizing shared development, PM Modi stressed the importance of sovereignty and territorial integrity. He stated, “India supports all efforts that connect markets, facilitate trade, and open new avenues for development. However, it is crucial to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations, which is also the core spirit of the SCO Charter.”
PM Modi described terrorism as a serious challenge to humanity, asserting the need to dismantle the entire ecosystem of terrorist funding, recruitment, radicalization, and safe havens. He emphasized that there should be no place for double standards in the fight against terrorism.
