Mumbai, September 1: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has intensified its actions against activities compromising the safety and convenience of rail passengers in the Mumbai Central Division throughout August.
The RPF addressed 2,581 cases involving unauthorized entry, illegal vending, intrusion into coaches reserved for women and the differently-abled, alcohol transportation, and other safety violations.
During this month-long operation, the RPF collected approximately ₹32.26 lakh in fines under various provisions of the amended Railway Act. This initiative sends a clear message that there will be no leniency for those violating rules within railway premises.
The primary goal of this campaign was to create a safe environment for railway passengers and to curb activities that compromise safety and passenger convenience.
The RPF took significant action against unauthorized individuals accessing railway tracks. A total of 985 people were apprehended under Section 147, resulting in fines of ₹4,92,500. This action aimed to reduce the risk of accidents and prevent unauthorized access to restricted railway areas.
To ensure the safety of female passengers, the RPF also acted against men and outsiders entering ladies’ coaches without permission. Under Section 162, 83 individuals were caught, and fines totaling ₹2,07,500 were imposed. This enforcement campaign aimed to create a safe and comfortable travel environment for women.
The RPF also targeted individuals traveling in coaches reserved for the differently-abled. A total of 474 people were apprehended under Section 155 for unauthorized travel, leading to fines of approximately ₹9.48 lakh. This action aimed to protect facilities specifically reserved for differently-abled passengers.
The force addressed complaints of extortion, harassment, and disturbances from passengers at trains and railway stations. Under Section 145-B, 211 transgender individuals were apprehended. This action aimed to provide relief to passengers from extortion and harassment.
A separate campaign was launched against the illegal transportation of alcohol, resulting in the arrest of 32 individuals. The RPF stated that this initiative aimed to curb such activities and enhance passenger safety.
The RPF also took significant action against illegal vendors selling goods at railway stations and on trains. Under Section 144, 774 illegal vendors were apprehended, resulting in fines totaling ₹15,48,000. This action aimed to halt illegal commercial activities and improve safety within railway premises.
Additionally, fines were imposed on six individuals for parking in no-parking zones under Section 159, totaling ₹3,000. Three individuals were fined ₹6,000 each for smoking under Section 167.
The RPF acted against individuals placing posters and stickers on local trains and railway coaches. Under Section 166, ten people were apprehended and fined ₹20,000. This action aimed to prevent damage to railway property.
In another incident, a person was caught traveling dangerously on the footboard of a moving train and fined ₹1,000. This type of action aims to prevent accidents and injuries caused by unsafe travel practices.
The RPF also took action against an individual who pulled the alarm chain without valid reason, causing the train to stop unnecessarily. In another case, a habitual offender was caught stealing a passenger’s belongings.
