New Delhi, June 23: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed 183 probationary officers of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) 2024 batch on Tuesday, urging them to contribute wholeheartedly to nation-building in order to realize the vision of a developed India by 2047.
During the event held at the Service Training Institute, the Prime Minister emphasized that after two years of field experience and administrative training, these young officers have reached a critical juncture where their decisions will impact not only their careers but also the futures of millions of citizens.
He stated that the true test of public service lies in facing real-world challenges with honesty, sensitivity, and commitment. Modi encouraged the officers to play an active role in nation-building through innovation, purposeful work ethic, and citizen-centric governance.
The Prime Minister reminded them not to view administrative files merely as paperwork, but to recognize that behind each file lie the aspirations, problems, and lives of millions. He invoked the mantra “Citizen First” and urged the officers to place citizens at the center of every decision, making governance sensitive, accountable, and inclusive.
He pointed out that significant developmental goals cannot be achieved within departmental boundaries. Improved coordination among various ministries and departments is essential to ensure sustainable and effective outcomes.
Highlighting the vision for a developed India by 2047, Modi stated that every policy and administrative decision in the coming years should contribute to making the nation a developed country. He identified self-reliant India, Make in India, expansion of the manufacturing sector, energy security, and job creation for youth as current priorities.
The Prime Minister noted that over the past decade, governance has shifted from a process-based model to a results-oriented model. With the help of digital governance, artificial intelligence (AI), and technology, service delivery has become more transparent and accessible.
Emphasizing data-driven administration, he urged the officers to view data not just as numbers but as reflections of the lives, challenges, and aspirations of millions. He asked them to regularly assess whether government policies are yielding the expected results at the grassroots level.
Modi advised the officers to derive satisfaction not from their positions or authority but from the tangible and measurable outcomes of their actions.
He also highlighted the increasing participation of women in nation-building, noting that over 40 percent of the current batch comprises female officers.
Several senior officials attended the event, including Union Minister of State for Personnel Dr. Jitendra Singh, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister P.K. Mishra, Secretary of the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) Rachna Shah, and Director of LBSNAA Shriram Taranikanti.
