New Delhi, July 30: Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured five MPs from Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland on Thursday that the central government will provide all necessary assistance to tackle the challenges posed by heavy rainfall and flooding. He emphasized that the government will work in coordination with the respective state administrations.
After meeting with the MPs from the northeastern states, PM Modi posted on his official X account, “I met with the MPs from Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland. We discussed the situation arising from the floods in these states. The central government will continue to work with the state governments to address these challenges. I wish everyone safety and well-being.”
The meeting took place at the Parliament House in New Delhi, led by Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju. During this discussion, the current flood situation in both states was reviewed.
Later, Kiren Rijiju shared on X, “The MPs from Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Parliament to inform him about the flood situation in both states. The Prime Minister assured all possible assistance and provided necessary directives to ensure timely relief, rehabilitation, and support for the affected people.”
The MPs who met with the Prime Minister included Tapir Gao (Lok Sabha, Arunachal Pradesh), Tai Tagak (Rajya Sabha, Arunachal Pradesh), S. Supongmeren Jamir (Lok Sabha, Nagaland), and S. Phangnon Konyak (Rajya Sabha, Nagaland). All members, except Congress MP S. Supongmeren Jamir, belong to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Tapir Gao, MP from Arunachal East, expressed gratitude on X, stating, “I sincerely thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for patiently listening to our concerns regarding the flood situation in Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland. The Prime Minister assured that the Government of India will provide all possible assistance to the affected people.”
Both Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh have been severely impacted by heavy rainfall and flooding since last month, resulting in loss of life and damage to property, infrastructure, homes, and crops.
The Indian Air Force is coordinating with the Nagaland government to conduct extensive rescue and relief operations in landslide-affected areas. So far, over 300 stranded citizens have been safely evacuated, while essential relief supplies are being airlifted to remote districts cut off due to damaged road networks.
Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Minister Kiren Rijiju, and Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu recently conducted both aerial and ground surveys of the flood-affected areas in Arunachal Pradesh.
Chouhan assured comprehensive central assistance for the flood-affected regions of Arunachal Pradesh. He announced a detailed assessment of the damage, plans for new homes for families who lost their houses, and compensation for losses to crops, agricultural land, and livestock.
The Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh has already informed the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister Amit Shah about the situation, assuring that the central government will provide all possible support. He expressed confidence that joint efforts from both the center and state will restore normalcy soon, while also working on scientific and long-term solutions to address such natural disasters in the future.
