Amman, July 30: Rising tensions between the U.S. and Iran have created a volatile atmosphere across the Middle East. In response to American strikes, Tehran has targeted Gulf nations. On Wednesday night, Iran reportedly launched missiles towards Jordan, which were intercepted and destroyed in mid-air, according to official sources. No casualties were reported from this incident.
The Jordanian military asserted that it successfully intercepted five missiles aimed at the country from Iran. The Jordan News Agency (Petra) reported that “interception measures” were implemented to neutralize all potential threats.
The military emphasized its readiness to address any threats to national security and the safety of citizens with the highest level of preparedness.
However, the Jordanian military did not disclose the launch site of the alleged missiles or the location where they were intercepted.
In a separate development, the U.S. targeted over ten cities in Iran early Thursday morning. According to Iranian media reports, airstrikes were carried out on cities including Keshm, Kish, Kazerun, Ahvaz, Abadan, Shadegan, Arvandkenar, Bushehr, Jam, and Khorramshahr.
The attack on residential buildings on Keshm Island resulted in the deaths of a couple and their two-year-old child, while two other children sustained injuries.
The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) issued a statement confirming that it targeted numerous sites belonging to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), including command centers, missile and drone facilities, coastal surveillance and defense sites, as well as maritime military capabilities.
Earlier, U.S. President Trump stated, “They tried to attack, now it’s our turn,” referring to the Iranian attack on U.S. military bases in Jordan the previous week.
