
Jamshedpur, June 17: A tragic shooting incident occurred late Tuesday night in the Khadiya Basti area of the Olidih police station in East Singhbhum district, Jharkhand, resulting in the death of a young man. The police swiftly detained three individuals, including an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) stationed at the RIT police station in the Saraikela-Kharsawan district.
The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Devdas Gaur, a resident of the Rajnagar area in Saraikela district. According to police reports, he sustained a gunshot wound to the neck, which led to his demise. Initial investigations revealed that a group of individuals had gathered in Khadiya Basti to consume alcohol and other narcotics. During the gathering, a dispute erupted between Devdas Gaur and Devashish Poddar. The argument escalated, and it is alleged that Devashish Poddar fired a shot at Devdas using a country-made firearm.
Witnesses rushed the injured young man to MGM Hospital for treatment. Despite the medical team’s efforts, he succumbed to his injuries due to excessive blood loss. Following the incident, police found some individuals’ behavior suspicious at the hospital. Upon receiving this information, they initiated an inquiry and took three people into custody.
Among those detained is ASI Pankaj Kumar, who is stationed at the RIT police station in Saraikela-Kharsawan. Authorities are investigating his role during the incident and the circumstances surrounding his presence at the scene. The weapon, vehicle, and other materials recovered from the site have been seized and sent for forensic examination. Police are also questioning local residents and are committed to investigating all aspects of the case.
