Mumbai, August 30: The police in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir achieved a significant breakthrough on Saturday in a theft case registered at the Surankot police station.
Authorities arrested a suspected thief and recovered stolen goods valued at lakhs of rupees. According to police reports, the theft occurred on the night of August 19-20 at the shop of Sahir Ali, son of Shaukat Ali, located in Ward Number 8 of Surankot.
The thief made off with cooking oil, cigarettes, ghee, a gas cylinder, cash, and other valuable items, causing substantial financial loss to the shop owner.
Following the incident, an FIR was lodged under sections 331(4) and 305 of the Indian Penal Code at the Surankot police station, prompting an immediate investigation.
During the inquiry, police teams worked diligently to identify those involved in the crime. Through a professional and systematic investigation, the suspect was identified and apprehended.
The accused has been identified as Zaffar Iqbal, son of Barkat Hussain, a resident of Dudhank in Surankot. Police reported that based on the suspect’s disclosures and subsequent investigations, a significant quantity of stolen property was recovered, including various items missing from Sahir Ali’s shop.
Authorities confirmed that the investigation is ongoing. The police are working to uncover the full extent of the theft operation, determine if others were involved, and recover any additional stolen property.
The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or criminal incidents to the nearest police station. Officials noted that timely information from residents can play a crucial role in preventing crimes and assisting investigations.
