Indian and Italian Diplomats Discuss Counter-Terrorism Measures in New Delhi

New Delhi, October 7 (Daily Kiran) : Siby George, Secretary (West) of India’s Ministry of External Affairs, met with Paolo Mari, a senior Italian diplomat, on Wednesday in New Delhi. The two officials engaged in serious discussions regarding counter-terrorism measures. Mari is in the capital to co-chair the sixth meeting of the India-Italy Joint Working Group on Counter-Terrorism.

Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared images from the meeting on social media platform X. He noted that George welcomed Mari, who serves as the Director for G7-G20, Transnational Threats, and Integrated Strategy at Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

During their discussions, they condemned all forms and methods of terrorism. They also explored ways to enhance counter-terrorism cooperation between their nations and advance joint initiatives to combat the financing of terrorism.

The sixth meeting of the India-Italy Joint Working Group on Counter-Terrorism (JWG-CT) is a continuation of their commitment to denounce all manifestations of terrorism. The agenda included strengthening bilateral cooperation and addressing initiatives to counter the financing of terrorism.

According to the official website of the Ministry of External Affairs, the fifth JWG-CT meeting focused on organized crime and took place in Rome on January 16-17, 2025. The discussions aimed to monitor funding for terrorism, address the misuse of technology, and promote multilateral coordination with global organizations like the United Nations and the Financial Action Task Force.
