Friend Killed in Shooting Incident in Jamshedpur After Night of Drinking

Jamshedpur, June 17: A tragic shooting occurred late Tuesday night in the Khadiya Basti area of the Ulidih police station jurisdiction. Devdas Gaur, a resident of Rajnagar, was shot and later succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

The incident has now escalated to a murder case, with police preparing to take action against the accused under homicide charges. Investigations revealed that the shooter and the victim were friends who had been drinking prior to the incident.

Initial reports indicate that the bullet grazed Devdas’s neck, leading to his admission in MGM Hospital in critical condition. Unfortunately, his health deteriorated, and he passed away. Following the incident, three individuals—his companions Debashish Poddar, Neeraj Pradhan, and ASI Pankaj Kumar from the RIT police station—were detained for questioning. Their statements varied significantly, raising suspicions among the police.

Further investigation revealed that Debashish Poddar was the one who fired the shot during a dispute. According to police, all individuals involved were under the influence of alcohol, and the shooting occurred following an argument. Authorities recovered four glasses, bloodstains, and other crucial evidence from the crime scene. A locally made firearm used in the incident was also seized based on Debashish’s indication. Additionally, some land-related documents were found in the Kapali area, and police are investigating whether these documents are connected to the case.

Sachin Das, the officer in charge of MGM police station, stated that all individuals have been inconsistent in their statements and were intoxicated at the time. The investigation has uncovered several significant facts, and police are now conducting a thorough inquiry into the true cause of the dispute and every aspect surrounding the incident.
