Mumbai, September 3: In a shocking incident late Wednesday night, a young man was shot dead by assailants in the Hussainabad police jurisdiction of Palamu district, Jharkhand. The victim has been identified as Omprakash Singh, also known as Chhotu Singh. The shooting occurred near the residence of MLA Sanjay Kumar Singh Yadav, close to the Purandar Begha village along the Japla-Dangwar main road.
Reports indicate that Omprakash Singh had stopped his Scorpio vehicle to talk to someone when the attackers shot him in the temple. Despite attempting to flee, he was hit by multiple bullets and died at the scene. According to police, Omprakash Singh had a criminal history, with around eight cases registered against him at the Hussainabad police station, including charges related to the Arms Act and liquor smuggling. He had recently been released on bail after serving time in jail.
Authorities are investigating various potential motives for the murder, including old grudges and personal enmity. Upon receiving news of the incident, Hussainabad police chief Chandan Kumar arrived at the scene with a police force. They cordoned off the area and began their investigation. A suspicious motorcycle was reportedly seen fleeing the scene immediately after the shooting, leading police to believe that more than one assailant may have been involved.
Palamu Superintendent of Police Kapil Chaudhary stated that special police teams are actively conducting raids to identify and apprehend the criminals. Initial investigations and local intelligence have provided some significant leads, which are being pursued through both technical and ground-level inquiries. Police are reviewing CCTV footage from cameras near the Japla-Dangwar main road and the MLA’s residence, as well as examining data from mobile towers in the vicinity.
Additionally, investigators are looking into the victim’s mobile phone call details to determine who he was speaking with prior to the incident. Following the shooting, angry relatives and villagers blocked the road in protest. The blockade was lifted around 7:30 AM on Thursday after police assured them of appropriate action. Subsequently, the body was sent for post-mortem at the Hussainabad sub-divisional hospital under police supervision.
