New Delhi, October 7 (Daily Kiran) : In a significant diplomatic move, Dinesh Trivedi, the Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indian Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth in New Delhi. This meeting, held on October 7, 2026, is viewed as a step towards improving the bilateral relationship between India and Bangladesh.
Trivedi’s visit was unexpected, with sources indicating that he arrived in the capital on Monday and met with Modi around 1 PM the following day. After this meeting, he also conferred with General Seth.
The Indian Army highlighted the discussions on social media, stating that Trivedi and General Seth focused on enhancing cooperation and defense ties between the two nations. This meeting comes at a crucial time as both countries are working to mend their bilateral relations, which have faced challenges since the departure of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from power in 2024.
Earlier this month, the outgoing Bangladeshi High Commissioner to India, Riaz Hamidullah, expressed his efforts to foster stable and progressive relations based on mutual trust, respect, and shared benefits during his tenure in New Delhi. He emphasized the importance of maintaining long-term ties focused on shared interests rather than traditional diplomatic routes.
Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar praised the contributions of the High Commissioner to Bangladesh-India relations and wished him well in his future endeavors.
Moreover, on September 30, a meeting took place in Dhaka between the Indian High Commissioner and Bangladesh’s Minister of Liberation War Affairs, Ahmed Azam Khan. Both sides reiterated their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and discussed issues of mutual interest.
Local media reports indicate that Trivedi also spoke about the need for preparations ahead of a forthcoming meeting between Prime Minister Tariq Rahman and Modi, suggesting that there is no rush for these discussions.
