Yoga Awareness Program from Gangotri to Ganga Sagar Held in Varanasi

Varanasi, June 17: A yoga awareness program was held at the sacred Ravidas Ghat in Varanasi as part of the ‘Gangotri to Ganga Sagar’ campaign. The initiative aims to spread the importance of yoga and inspire people towards a healthier lifestyle. A large number of participants gathered at the banks of the Ganges to practice yoga together.

During the event, Uttar Pradesh government minister Dayashankar Mishra stated that this journey will start from Gangotri and conclude at Ganga Sagar. He explained that the campaign is a collaborative effort by the Ministry of AYUSH, AYUSH Mission, and Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga. With International Yoga Day approaching on June 21, this week-long special program aims to raise awareness about yoga across the country.

The minister further emphasized that the campaign is not limited to major cities; it seeks to promote yoga along riverbanks, in village ponds, at historical and religious sites, and in city parks. He noted that connecting every segment of society to yoga is the campaign’s primary goal. This initiative is progressing under the inspiration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Meanwhile, the Director General of the AYUSH Department, Chaitravi, mentioned that this event is being organized in celebration of the 12th International Yoga Day. The ‘Gangotri to Ganga Sagar’ series commenced on June 14 from Gangotri, aiming to spread the message of yoga from the source of the Ganges to its confluence with the sea.

She added that prior events were held in Rishikesh and Haridwar, followed by a grand yoga gathering in Prayagraj on June 16. Continuing this momentum, the program took place at Ravidas Ghat in Varanasi on June 17. Practicing yoga by the Ganges not only benefits physical health but also provides mental peace and spiritual energy.

She highlighted this year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Aging,” emphasizing the goal of enabling individuals to lead healthy and active lives as they age. The message “Practice Yoga, Stay Healthy” is being disseminated to the public.
