Tehran, August 31: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has reportedly shot down a US MQ-9 drone over the Hormuz Strait. The IRGC claims that Iran’s advanced air defense system executed this operation while remaining vigilant.
According to the semi-official Mehr News Agency, the IRGC stated that its modern air defense forces targeted the long-range US drone early Monday morning.
The IRGC emphasized that its alert fighters successfully engaged the drone with a missile. Reports indicate that the drone was flying over the Hormuz Strait when Iranian air defense missiles swiftly took action, resulting in the drone’s destruction.
Following the incident, the IRGC noted that the drone became inactive and fell into the waters of the Gulf. Earlier that same day, the Iranian military claimed responsibility for an attack on the Al Minhad Air Base in the United Arab Emirates, targeting US military installations. Iran stated that this action was a response to a previous US attack on the island of Larak.
In a statement, the IRGC declared, “Aggression and crime cannot diminish the enemy’s desperation to undermine the Islamic Republic of Iran’s control over the Hormuz Strait. Every attack will be met with an even stronger and more devastating response.”
On Sunday night, the US conducted strikes targeting two IRGC rocket launchers located on Larak Island. The IRGC claimed that the attacks resulted in casualties among both military personnel and civilians in the Hormozgan province.
