Governments NM-ICPS Mission Accelerates Cyber-Physical System Innovations, Training Over 246,000 Professionals

New Delhi, August 31: The central government’s National Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems Mission (NM-ICPS) has emerged as a key driver for the development, innovation, and skill-building of emerging technologies in the country. An official fact sheet released on Monday stated that the mission has enabled the development of 1,146 technologies and contributed to the creation of 1,329 technology products across various sectors, including agriculture, healthcare, mining, cybersecurity, advanced communications, and positioning.

According to the fact sheet, special emphasis has been placed on skill development under this mission, with over 246,000 professionals receiving training so far. NM-ICPS is developing a comprehensive innovation ecosystem by integrating technology, talent, and entrepreneurship through Technology Innovation Hubs (TIH) and Translational Research Parks (TTRP). The mission has also promoted the creation and licensing of intellectual property.

The fact sheet highlighted that the Chanakya Fellowship Program plays a crucial role in human resource development and skill enhancement. This program provides financial support for projects addressing real challenges related to cyber-physical systems. To date, 5,824 fellowships have been awarded to undergraduate, postgraduate, PhD, and post-doctoral researchers under this initiative.

One of the primary objectives of the mission is to bring research-based innovations to a commercial level. In this regard, NM-ICPS has encouraged and incubated 1,136 startups and spin-off companies, resulting in the creation of over 24,000 jobs.

The government has established 25 Technology Innovation Hubs in leading academic institutions across the country under this mission. These hubs, set up as Section 8 companies, focus on developing new technologies, transforming research into products, and promoting technology-based startups.

According to the fact sheet, these Technology Innovation Hubs work in four key areas: technology development, human resource and skill development, innovation, entrepreneurship and startup promotion, and international collaboration.

NM-ICPS provides a national framework to promote cyber-physical system-based research, innovation, and applications in the country. The mission brings together the education sector, industry, government, and international organizations on a shared platform to align scientific research with national needs, industrial capabilities, and emerging market opportunities.

The statement emphasized that this mission covers the entire innovation cycle, from research and development to product manufacturing and startup establishment. The government believes this will help India advance towards global leadership in cyber-physical systems, artificial intelligence (AI), automation, and other emerging technologies.
