Bhopal, June 17: The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav, reaffirmed his government’s commitment to the farming community, assuring that farmer welfare will remain at the heart of the state’s development agenda. He highlighted recent decisions, including the extension of the agricultural loan repayment deadline and an increase in compensation for land acquired for development projects.

This statement came after a delegation from the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) met with him late Tuesday night in Bhopal to discuss measures aimed at reducing the financial burden on farmers and strengthening their economic security.

CM Yadav stated, “Farmer welfare is not just a slogan; it is our government’s resolve. We will continue to make decisions that strengthen the economic status of farmers, ensuring they receive greater respect and better facilities.”

During the meeting, representatives from BKS suggested improvements in the procurement of moong and urad pulses, simplifying the registration process for farmers, and enhancing irrigation infrastructure through better coordination of canals and ponds.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the government listens to the suggestions of farmer organizations and will work collaboratively with all stakeholders to address issues related to the agricultural sector.

He added, “Our aim is to ensure that government schemes benefit farmers effectively and that farming remains a profitable and sustainable profession for future generations.”

The discussion also highlighted Madhya Pradesh’s growing significance in grain procurement. According to government data, during the recently concluded procurement season, the state purchased 10.436 million metric tons of wheat from 1.342 million farmers.

In terms of the number of farmers involved in wheat procurement, Madhya Pradesh ranked first in the country, while it stood second after Punjab in total procurement volume. Farmers received a price of ₹2,625 per quintal, including a bonus of ₹40 per quintal on the minimum support price (MSP), with over ₹27,196 crore already disbursed.
