Jaipur, August 31: In a significant political upheaval, two out of four division presidents of the BJP in Alwar have resigned along with their executive committees. This move comes ahead of the municipal council elections in Rajasthan, with the resignations submitted to district president Ashok Gupta.
Of the 65 wards in Alwar, 33 fall under these two divisions: the Vivekanand division with 17 wards and the Keshav division with 16. Attempts to reach district president Ashok Gupta for comments were unsuccessful as he did not answer his phone.
The executive committee of the Vivekanand division, which includes president Jitendra Singh Rathore, has resigned. Rathore stated that he sought a BJP ticket for his wife, Hukam Kanwar, for Ward 25. However, reports indicate that the ticket was awarded to Ramakant Yadav, who previously contested from another ward.
Rathore also questioned the candidate selection process, noting that despite Ward 25 being reserved for a general category woman, the ticket was given to an OBC candidate.
Similarly, eight officials from the Keshav division, including president Mahesh Nihalani, have submitted their resignations to the district president. They allege that the ticket distribution did not follow the party’s established procedures.
According to them, it was indicated in party meetings that candidates would be finalized only after consulting division presidents and their executive committees. They claim this process was not adhered to.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that several BJP leaders have been trying to persuade the resigning officials to reconsider their decisions late into the night. Senior BJP leader Suresh Mehta, considered close to state forest minister Sanjay Sharma, expressed his discontent on social media.
In a post, Mehta remarked that it seems the party no longer values experienced and veteran leaders, suggesting they should step aside for self-serving individuals and sycophants. This post is viewed in the context of the upcoming municipal elections, although Mehta did not specify the reasons for his dissatisfaction.
Additionally, Vijendra Gurjar, district general secretary of the BJP OBC front, has also resigned from both his organizational position and primary party membership. In his resignation, Gurjar highlighted the growing discontent among party workers regarding the current organizational operations and the consistent neglect of dedicated grassroots workers who have served the party for years.
He stated that if the dignity and views of loyal party workers cannot be upheld within the party, there is no justification for remaining in any organizational position.
