Xi Jinpings Key Article on Disaster Management to Be Published

Beijing, August 15: The 16th issue of the official magazine of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, “Qiushi,” will feature a significant article by General Secretary Xi Jinping, who is also the President of China and Chairman of the Central Military Commission. The article, titled “Improving Disaster Prevention, Mitigation, and Relief Capabilities,” is set to be published on August 16.

The article emphasizes China’s vast territory, complex geography, and diverse climate, which often expose it to natural disasters. Since the 18th National Congress of the CPC, the Central Committee has consistently regarded disaster prevention, mitigation, and relief as a critical issue related to public safety and national security. It has implemented various reforms in terms of ideological changes, institutional improvements, system building, and capacity enhancement.

Leading numerous workers and the public, the CPC Central Committee has effectively managed several major natural disasters, minimizing casualties and property losses, with results recognized globally.

The article outlines that disaster prevention, relief, and rescue efforts in China currently face several new circumstances and challenges. It stresses the need to shift disaster management towards proactive prevention, enhance the capacity to respond to major disasters, strengthen technical support and legal safeguards, solidify grassroots foundations for disaster prevention, relief, and rescue, and ensure the implementation of responsibilities.
