Moscow, September 7 (Daily Kiran) : Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov announced on Monday that Russia has not ruled out the possibility of resuming tripartite talks concerning Ukraine. During an official briefing, Peskov referenced statements from Kyiv and remarks made by Jared Kushner, the U.S. special envoy for peace. He stated, “We do not dismiss the possibility of restarting this tripartite format.”
This announcement follows a meeting on Saturday between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. envoys Steve Vitkoff and Jared Kushner, which lasted over three hours. Afterward, Vitkoff and Kushner met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv.
According to the Xinhua news agency, Peskov characterized the meeting between Putin and the American diplomats as a small step toward peace, emphasizing that any effort, no matter how minor, contributes to the pursuit of tranquility. He also did not exclude the possibility of another conversation between Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump following the American diplomats’ visit to Kyiv, noting that Russia appreciates efforts to establish peace.
Previously, delegations from Ukraine, the U.S., and Russia engaged in two rounds of talks in Abu Dhabi on January 23-24 and February 4-5, aimed at finding a resolution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. This was followed by another round of discussions in Geneva on February 17-18. However, these tripartite talks have since been suspended.
In related news, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced on Monday that the capital will impose a ban on mass gatherings starting Thursday due to the deteriorating security situation. He stated that all recreational, physical education, and sports activities in open areas and unprotected buildings will be temporarily suspended.
Earlier in the day, the Kyiv City State Administration revealed that the city is increasing its reserves of food and drinking water in preparation for prolonged power outages and other emergencies.
