Xi Jinping and Kim Jong Un Meet to Strengthen Ties

Beijing, June 8: Chinese Communist Party (CPC) General Secretary and President Xi Jinping met with Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea and Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), at the Kumsusan Guesthouse in Pyongyang on Monday.

During the meeting, Xi emphasized that China and the DPRK are socialist countries led by communist parties. He highlighted the deep historical roots of their traditional friendship, strong political foundation, and emotional bonds. The friendship characterized by mutual support and a shared future has been a hallmark of China-DPRK relations across generations. Regardless of changes in the international landscape, the CPC and the Chinese government’s firm stance on maintaining traditional friendship with the DPRK remains unchanged.

Xi noted that unprecedented changes are accelerating globally. Both sides must build on the past to open up the future. He presented four suggestions for the development of China-DPRK relations.

First, strengthen mutual political trust through high-level exchanges. Second, enhance practical cooperation aimed at benefiting the people. Third, promote mutual contacts among people as a driving force for friendship development. Fourth, improve the quality of strategic coordination based on principles of fairness and justice.

Kim Jong Un responded by stating that Xi’s vision of a community with a shared future for humanity and the four global initiatives are crucial for enhancing world peace and development. He acknowledged the unprecedented changes occurring in the international community in recent years. The DPRK remains committed to the one-China policy and firmly supports China’s core interests and positions. Strengthening DPRK-China friendship in the new era is both a choice of the people and a necessity of the times, reflecting the DPRK’s enduring strategic choice and unwavering will. The DPRK considers the development of relations with China a primary strategic task and aims to set an exemplary standard for inter-country relations, contributing to regional and global peace and prosperity.
