Kolkata, March 28: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stated on Friday that Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) produced in the state should not be exported until the ongoing supply crisis is resolved.
She expressed concerns that the large-scale transfers and deployments of bureaucrats and police officers from West Bengal to other states, ordered by the Election Commission of India (ECI), could lead to the diversion of LPG supplies outside the state.
Speaking to reporters outside the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata, she emphasized that during this crisis, LPG produced in West Bengal must remain within the state.
Banerjee highlighted the potential disruptions to LPG supply due to the massive transfers of officials ahead of the elections. She noted that a significant number of election officials and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel would also be arriving in West Bengal for the assembly elections. The supply of LPG for cooking must not face any issues, she asserted.
Following her statements, CM Banerjee departed for Andal in the Purba Bardhaman district to address various election rallies.
During her address, she criticized the ECI, alleging that several names of voters were reportedly removed from the first supplementary list released earlier this week. This list pertained to cases sent for judicial resolution.
“The Supreme Court ordered the release of the supplementary list. They claim the first list has been issued, but we have not yet received a hard copy. This is a murder of democracy and extremely unfortunate,” she stated.
She further remarked that one day, people would demand accountability from those responsible for these actions.
Banerjee questioned, “If they have the courage, they should transparently remove their names from the voter list. People should know whether their names are included or not. There should be a tribunal in every district for including names in the voter list. Is this country the private property of the BJP?”
