
New Delhi, July 24: Newly elected members of the Rajya Sabha will receive comprehensive insights into parliamentary procedures, rules, and traditions. To facilitate this, a two-day orientation program will be held at the Parliament House complex on July 25 and 26. The announcement was made by Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan during the house proceedings, urging all members to take full advantage of this program.
The Chairman stated that this orientation, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, is specifically designed for the recently elected members of the Rajya Sabha. Its aim is to familiarize them with the workings of the house, parliamentary rules, procedures, and the traditions that have evolved over the years, enabling them to effectively fulfill their parliamentary responsibilities.
He emphasized that a member’s role in Parliament goes beyond mere attendance; it also involves raising public issues and being accountable by effectively utilizing various parliamentary processes and available resources. This program has been structured with that objective in mind.
During the orientation, newly elected members will be informed about several topics, including the process of conducting house proceedings, available parliamentary measures under the rules, various types of information, questions, special mentions, short discussions, participation in legislative work, and the role of parliamentary committees.
Additionally, they will be made aware of the traditions and decorum of the house. The Chairman expressed confidence that this program would be highly beneficial for the newly elected members.
