New Delhi, August 2: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal announced on Sunday that West Bengal will significantly benefit from nine crucial Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) established under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. Enhanced access to developed markets will boost the state’s exports and economic growth.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Goyal stated that these FTAs will provide more opportunities for tea producers, fishermen, artisans involved in traditional handicrafts, as well as the youth and women of the state.
He emphasized, “The nine important Free Trade Agreements under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership will greatly benefit West Bengal.”
Goyal further explained that improved market access will benefit tea producers, fishermen, artisans in traditional handicrafts, and the youth and women of the state.
According to Goyal, better access to international markets will help increase production, expand exports, and create sustainable employment opportunities across various sectors in West Bengal.
He noted that the benefits from these trade agreements will not only strengthen the state’s economy but also contribute to advancing the vision of a ‘Developed India.’
The minister added, “This will lead to increased production, enhanced exports, and the creation of sustainable jobs, thereby furthering the vision of a ‘Developed India.'”
Additionally, earlier this year, a source from the state government revealed that at least 42 industrialists have approached the state’s Commerce and Industry Minister, Tapas Roy, expressing their interest in investing in West Bengal.
Officials stated that the minister has assured them of support in this regard. The source further mentioned that several announcements related to investments in the industrial sector could be made during the current budget session of the state assembly.
Since coming to power, the government led by Suvendu Adhikari has pledged to develop the state’s industrial sector and has committed to intervening in this matter.
After the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power in West Bengal for the first time, the center requested the NITI Aayog to prepare a long-term blueprint to revive the state’s industry and economy.
This initiative is already underway under the leadership of NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Ashok Kumar Lahiri.
