Mumbai, September 4 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian stock market opened on a positive note on Friday, September 4, 2026, buoyed by strong global signals. At 9:21 AM, the Sensex was up by 466 points, or 0.61%, reaching 76,619, while the Nifty gained 46 points, or 0.20%, to settle at 23,916.

The early surge was primarily driven by the defense and IT sectors. The Nifty India Defense index rose by 0.89%, and the Nifty IT index increased by 0.56%, making them the top gainers.

Additionally, other indices such as Nifty Realty, Nifty Financial Services, Nifty Services, Nifty Private Bank, Nifty Infra, Nifty Oil and Gas, and Nifty PSU also showed positive trends.

Conversely, the Nifty Pharma, Nifty Healthcare, Nifty Energy, and Nifty Commodities indices were trading in the red.

Midcap and small-cap stocks displayed mixed performance, with the Nifty Midcap 100 index hovering around 63,237, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 index climbed by 83 points, or 0.42%, reaching 20,134.

Notable gainers in the Sensex pack included Bajaj Finserv, Indigo, Trent, Infosys, TCS, Adani Ports, Bajaj Finance, Tech Mahindra, BEL, HDFC Bank, Ultratech Cement, Titan, M&M, ITC, SBI, HCL Tech, L&T, Power Grid, and Tata Steel. On the losing side were Axis Bank, Eternal, Bharti Airtel, and HUL.

International markets also experienced gains, with Tokyo, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Bangkok, and Seoul all in the green. The U.S. markets closed positively, with the Dow Jones up by 1.18% and the technology index Nasdaq rising by 1.40%.

Experts noted that while domestic factors such as a robust 7.8% GDP growth and increasing private investment are favorable for the economy, rising bond yields in the U.S., Europe, UK, and Japan remain a significant concern for global markets, keeping investors cautious.
