
New Delhi, September 4 (Daily Kiran) : Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) announced on September 4 that its sales in August rose by 13% year-on-year, reaching 1.87 million tons. During this period, production of hot metal, crude steel, and saleable steel also reached record levels.
The company reported that crude steel production increased by 8% compared to last year, totaling 1.68 million tons, up from 1.55 million tons. Hot metal production saw a 9% rise, reaching 1.78 million tons, compared to 1.63 million tons previously. Saleable steel production grew by 1%, amounting to 1.69 million tons, up from 1.66 million tons.
SAIL’s total sales for August stood at 1.871 million tons, reflecting a significant increase of 13.11% from 1.654 million tons during the same period last year. A.K. Panda, Chairman and Managing Director of SAIL, stated that the performance in August and the April-August period demonstrates a growing synergy between operational capacity, commercial delivery, and financial prudence.
Panda emphasized that the company’s record production, sales momentum, and financial management have strengthened its foundation. With expansion projects progressing and a positive demand outlook, SAIL is well-positioned to accelerate its growth.
According to the company, cash collections in August saw a 23% annual increase. SAIL also recorded its highest sales to date in several value-added product categories, including cold-rolled, galvanized, and alloy steel.
In terms of railway supplies, SAIL delivered 123,000 tons, marking a 5% increase year-on-year. The supply of long rails surged by 11%, reaching a record 112,000 tons. Additionally, the company reduced its debt by ₹8.7 billion since March 31.
For the April-August period, SAIL’s total sales grew by 5.6% year-on-year, amounting to 7.71 million tons. The company attributed this growth to an improved product mix, strong regional presence, and robust domestic demand for finished and processed steel.
