Kolkata, September 19 (Daily Kiran) : West Bengal‘s Panchayat and Rural Development Minister, Dilip Ghosh, has announced a special audit to investigate alleged corruption within the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) and the hill panchayats of North Bengal. This decision was made during a review meeting held at the Uttarkanya secretariat in Siliguri, where Ghosh emphasized the government’s commitment to a “zero tolerance” policy against administrative corruption.
Ghosh, a former state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ex-national vice president, stated that any form of corruption in public service-related activities will not be tolerated. He revealed plans to conduct special audits in at least 10% of the panchayats and GTA areas facing serious corruption allegations. The minister also mentioned ongoing efforts to address infrastructure deficiencies in coordination with the new GTA leadership and administrative officials.
In addition, Ghosh announced that the process to fill approximately 11,000 vacant positions in the Panchayat and Rural Development Department is set to begin soon, ensuring the smooth delivery of services. He expressed confidence that the people of West Bengal, who voted for change in governance, are satisfied with the new administration’s performance. Ghosh predicted that this satisfaction will be reflected in the upcoming by-elections for two assembly seats in West Bengal, where he expects BJP candidates to win by a significant margin.
