Nainital, September 22 (Daily Kiran) : In Nainital, Uttarakhand, a recent outbreak of illness linked to contaminated drinking water has raised serious health concerns. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced on Tuesday that those responsible for the situation have been identified, and actions have already been taken against them.
The outbreak occurred in the Jioalikot area and nearby villages, where a significant number of residents fell ill, raising fears of a waterborne disease spread. Speaking to the media in Dehradun, Dhami expressed his sorrow over the incident, emphasizing that accountability will be enforced for those found responsible.
“This incident is tragic, and we must hold everyone accountable,” Dhami stated. He assured that initial actions have been taken, aiming to prevent such occurrences in the future.
In response to the outbreak, six engineers from the Uttarakhand Jal Sansthan and the Drinking Water Corporation have been suspended. This decision followed a report submitted by the district administration regarding the situation.
The suspended engineers are accused of negligence in their duties related to the water supply in the affected areas. Among those suspended are the chief engineer in charge of the Haldwani water supply, an assistant engineer, and an additional assistant engineer from the Nainital water authority. Also included are an executive engineer and two assistant engineers from the Bhimtal Drinking Water Corporation.
Furthermore, the executive engineer of the Nainital water authority has been warned that any future negligence will lead to severe consequences. The administration has stressed the importance of ensuring that such lapses do not occur again.
