Irans Foreign Minister Highlights Human Rights Concerns at UN Amid Ongoing Conflict

Irans Foreign Minister addresses human rights issues at the UN, emphasizing the countrys struggle amidst ongoing conflict.

Tehran, September 22 (Daily Kiran) : Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araqchi, arrived in New York for the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), aiming to voice the rights and interests of the Iranian people on a significant international platform.

According to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Araqchi emphasized that the UN serves as the largest international forum for countries to present their perspectives to the world. Speaking to reporters in New York, he noted that his visit comes at a time when Iran is facing an “unjust war,” with conditions still resembling a state of conflict. This year’s assembly offers Iran the opportunity to highlight the suffering of its people and the plight of those killed in the ongoing struggle, referencing victims from a school in Minab and the country’s late leader.

Araqchi mentioned that President Masoud Pezeshkian will address the UN General Assembly, and he will engage with Iranian and foreign intellectuals and media representatives, providing interviews to various media outlets. The visit will also include meetings with foreign ministers from different countries to review bilateral relations and advocate for Iran’s national interests.

During his remarks, Araqchi criticized Western nations for their inaction, particularly condemning the lack of accountability for the deaths of 168 innocent children in a recent incident.

He highlighted the theme of this year’s UN General Assembly: “Restoring Trust, Managing Change: A United Nations that Works for All.” This theme allows for discussions on the declining trust in the UN among people and nations, and how it can be rebuilt.

Over the course of his four to five-day visit, the Iranian delegation will also participate in meetings of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
