Kolkata, May 15: The newly elected government of West Bengal, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has decided to organize a ‘Public Darbar’ twice a week for two hours. During these sessions, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari will directly listen to the grievances of the public.
A source from the Nabanna state secretariat indicated that while no official notification has been released yet, the Chief Minister’s office has made a principled decision to initiate the ‘Public Darbar’. Two senior officials will accompany the Chief Minister during these events. It is highly likely that an official announcement will be made later this month, with the program set to commence next month.
According to the state secretariat source, preparations are already underway at the administrative level, and work is ongoing regarding the operational procedures of the program.
The source noted that regardless of which party is in power, the public always has some complaints regarding administrative operations. The new Chief Minister believes that as the head of administration, it is essential for him to have direct knowledge of the public’s grievances. Therefore, the ‘Public Darbar’ is being planned to allow the Chief Minister to assess complaints directly from the citizens.
Additionally, it was mentioned that people often wish to contact the Chief Minister directly with their concerns, but security protocols can make this difficult. The source from the state secretariat explained that letters addressed to the Chief Minister often do not reach him directly. Keeping all these factors in mind, the concept of ‘Public Darbar’ has been developed.
