Thiruvananthapuram, August 30: Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan inaugurated the ‘Aranmula Uthrithathi Vallamkali’ on the Pamba River in Kerala on Sunday. He emphasized that tradition and modernity can coexist harmoniously.
He recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of development and heritage, stating that India’s diverse festivals showcase the cultural unity of the nation.
“Our diversity is not a reason for division; it is a source of our strength,” he remarked.
According to an official statement, Radhakrishnan described Aranmula as a magnificent symbol of Kerala’s rich cultural heritage, devotion, and age-old traditions.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, he noted that the Aranmula Vallamkali reflects teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship, featuring beautifully decorated Palliyodam boats with over 100 rowers synchronizing their efforts.
Highlighting that expatriates return to participate in such cherished traditions, Radhakrishnan stated that Aranmula exemplifies how cultural practices keep people connected to their roots.
He congratulated the people of Kerala on the state’s name change, recalling his privilege of presiding over the bill’s passage during the recently concluded parliamentary session as the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. He also extended best wishes for Onam.
Emphasizing the spiritual significance of the Pamba River, he noted that it is an integral part of the Sabarimala pilgrimage, symbolizing faith, purity, and spiritual dedication.
Reflecting on his seven pilgrimages to Sabarimala, Radhakrishnan shared that he considers his first visit to the temple, shortly before his nomination as a Member of Parliament, to be particularly special.
He believes that the blessings of Lord Ayyappa played a crucial role in his subsequent electoral victory.
