Tashkent, August 30: In a significant move to strengthen ties, Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi signed a comprehensive package of bilateral agreements on Sunday. This event took place in Tashkent, marking a pivotal moment for cooperation across various sectors.
The press service of the Uzbek President announced on social media platform X, stating, “A major package of bilateral documents has been signed in the presence of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. These agreements aim to further develop cooperation in trade, economic, investment, cultural, humanitarian, and other fields.”
During the state visit, high-level talks were held at the official workplace and state residence, Kuksaroy Residence, in Tashkent. The press service noted that both leaders discussed enhancing trade, investment, industrial, interregional, and cultural cooperation, agreeing to elevate Uzbekistan-India relations to a new level.
Earlier, President Mirziyoyev honored PM Modi with Uzbekistan’s highest state award, the “Oliy Darajali Dustlik” order. The President’s press service highlighted that this award recognizes Modi’s invaluable contribution to strengthening the centuries-old bonds of friendship between the peoples of Uzbekistan and India.
President Mirziyoyev emphasized the deep historical ties shared by the people of Uzbekistan and India. He expressed satisfaction that these relations continue to thrive, stressing that both countries have “unlimited possibilities” to further enhance their cooperation as strategic partners.
Addressing a joint press conference with PM Modi in Tashkent, President Mirziyoyev expressed gratitude for Modi’s state visit and noted that significant decisions were made as a result of their discussions, giving bilateral relations a new direction.
He stated, “The discussions we had today are a testament to our deep friendship and the immense mutual potential as strategic partners, a partnership that holds significant influence on the global stage.”
The Uzbek President mentioned that both sides discussed a wide range of possibilities and engaged in extensive consultations across various sectors. They also worked towards preparing a roadmap to guide future bilateral cooperation.
He added, “We are pleased with India’s advancements in digital innovation, artificial intelligence, and startups, which have established it as a global leader in sustainable development. We intend to integrate our extensive cooperation with these advancements. We have closely reviewed our progress so far and set new objectives. I reaffirm my commitment to adopting a roadmap that covers all these areas.”
