Tashkent, August 30: During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit, India and Uzbekistan signed multiple agreements. The two-day visit resulted in 11 memorandums of understanding and the announcement of 5 significant initiatives.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, a cultural exchange program for the years 2026-30 was formalized between the governments of India and Uzbekistan.
An agreement was reached for the preservation and restoration of ancient Buddhist sites in Termez, Uzbekistan, between India’s Ministry of External Affairs and Uzbekistan’s cultural heritage agency.
Additionally, a memorandum of understanding was exchanged between India’s Ministry of Culture and the National Archives, along with Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Justice and the agency Uzarchive, focusing on archival work collaboration.
A final agreement was established on cooperation in Ayurveda and other traditional medical systems between the governments of India and Uzbekistan.
In the field of geology and mineral resources, a memorandum was signed between India’s Ministry of Mines and Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Mining Industry and Geology.
For tourism collaboration from 2026 to 2028, a partnership program was discussed between India’s Ministry of Tourism and Uzbekistan’s Tourism Committee.
An agreement was also signed between India’s Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service and Uzbekistan’s University of World Economy and Diplomacy for diplomatic academy cooperation.
Furthermore, a memorandum was established for economic and financial dialogue between India’s Ministry of Finance and Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Economy and Finance.
In environmental protection, an agreement was reached between India’s Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Uzbekistan’s National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change.
Cooperation in higher education and scientific research was also formalized between the two governments.
A cooperation agreement was signed to establish partnership relations between Gujarat state in India and the Samarkand region of Uzbekistan.
Moreover, the strategic partnership between India and Uzbekistan was announced to be transformed into a comprehensive strategic partnership.
A grant of 1 million USD was announced for afforestation in the Aral Sea region.
Additionally, the Lal Bahadur Shastri Hindi Language Scholarship program was introduced, offering 100 scholarships.
The establishment of an ICCR Sanskrit Chair at Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies was also announced.
