Bhopal, August 30: The political landscape in Madhya Pradesh has been stirred following a controversial incident after Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s rally in Haldwani, Uttarakhand. Allegations have emerged that some individuals associated with the BJP performed a purification ritual at the rally site by sprinkling Ganga water.
On Sunday, leaders and activists from the Congress Scheduled Caste department visited the MP Nagar police station in Bhopal to file a formal complaint. They demanded that an FIR be registered against those involved and that action be taken under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Congress leaders have accused certain individuals linked to the BJP of arriving at the venue post-rally and claiming to purify the stage and ground with Ganga water. The party has expressed strong objections to this act, labeling it as a manifestation of social discrimination and a casteist mindset.
In their written complaint to the police, the complainants stated that purifying a rally site after a leader’s event is socially objectionable. They alleged that such actions promote untouchability and discrimination against members of the Scheduled Castes.
The Congress Scheduled Caste department has called for a thorough investigation by the Bhopal police, urging them to register a case under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and take strict legal action against those responsible.
This controversy is directly linked to the rally held by Mallikarjun Kharge in Haldwani. According to Congress, after the event concluded, some individuals arrived at the venue and performed the alleged purification ritual by sprinkling Ganga water.
