New Delhi, August 30: Former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat addressed several pressing issues on Sunday. He spoke candidly about Mohan Bhagwat’s remarks on Muslims, the Haldwani purification controversy, disagreements over reservations within the NDA, the tragedy in Nepal, and Prime Minister Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program.
Rawat stated, “What RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said in New York contradicts the views of over 95% of his organization and the associated BJP. He should first explain this to his followers and ask them if they consider themselves Hindus. Sanatan Dharma has always been about inclusivity, but the direction in which the BJP is moving does not reflect a mindset that embraces everyone.”
Regarding the Haldwani purification incident, the Congress leader remarked, “This was an event that has brought shame to both the state and society. It sends a clear message that if BJP members cannot respect Kharge, what does that say about the status of the average Dalit? We are ashamed of the manner in which this purification was conducted. It is even more disgraceful how the leadership in the state and Delhi is attempting to shield those involved. FIRs should be filed against the accused, and they must be imprisoned.”
On the statements made by Union Ministers Chirag Paswan and Jitan Ram Manjhi regarding reservations, Rawat commented, “From the largest party in the NDA to the others, their policy on reservations is unclear. There are many conflicting views among them, leading to ministers fighting among themselves and demanding resignations. The NDA is confused about reservations. If they had their way, they would eliminate the term ‘reservation’ from the Constitution.”
Concerning the recent tragedy in Nepal, he expressed, “My condolences are with our brothers and sisters there. Many Indians have been victims of this disaster. I urge the government to assist in locating the missing individuals. We must extend all possible help to Nepal at this time.”
