Mumbai, June 14: A shocking discovery was made in Gosaba, located in West Bengal‘s South 24 Parganas district, when local authorities found homemade weapons in a pond. The incident occurred in the Pathankhali Beltala area of the Gosaba police jurisdiction. Police recovered a small homemade revolver from the pond.
According to police and local sources, the pond’s owner, Amjed Sardar, was fishing with his daughter in a pond situated in an open field in Beltala. During their fishing expedition, his daughter felt something hard hit her foot underwater. When they pulled the object out, they found it wrapped in plastic, revealing a weapon.
The incident was promptly reported to the Gosaba police station. Upon receiving the information, police arrived at the scene and seized the weapon.
Authorities conducted a search operation in the pond and several nearby ponds but did not find any additional weapons or suspicious items.
The police have initiated an investigation into the matter. Initial inquiries suggest that a criminal may have discarded the weapon in the pond to evade law enforcement and destroy evidence.
Currently, police are working to determine how the weapon ended up in the pond and who might be involved. The investigation is ongoing.
In a separate incident, a 47-year-old man was brutally murdered with an axe in Purulia district, causing widespread alarm. The victim’s family has made serious allegations of communal hatred, although local police have denied any such motive.
The deceased has been identified as Akbar Mandal. His murder occurred on June 9 in the village. The victim’s son reported that on the morning of June 9, his father was selling steel utensils from his van when he was suddenly dragged into a local house. There, an unknown assailant violently attacked him. The attacker first beat his father with a stick, and when the victim attempted to defend himself, he was struck with an axe.
