New Delhi, September 4 (Daily Kiran) : Russian Chief Justice Igor Krasnov arrived in New Delhi on September 4 to participate in the BRICS Chief Justice Forum. Upon his arrival, he was welcomed by Denis Alipov, the Russian Ambassador to India, along with other officials.
The Russian embassy in India announced via Telegram that Krasnov would hold bilateral meetings with judicial heads from BRICS member countries during his visit. These discussions aim to strengthen legal cooperation. The forum will primarily focus on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the justice system.
Additionally, Ayatollah Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei, the head of Iran’s judiciary, also arrived in New Delhi for the forum. He visited the Jama Masjid for prayers and met with the mosque’s Imam, Maulana Syed Shaban Bukhari. During his trip, he engaged with Islamic scholars and religious leaders at the Iranian embassy in New Delhi.
The Supreme Court of India is hosting the BRICS Chief Justice Forum from September 4 to 6, featuring chief justices and senior judicial representatives from BRICS member and partner nations.
Throughout the forum, judicial delegations will discuss contemporary issues related to justice delivery, international dispute resolution, technology, and sustainable development.
Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud of India is set to hold bilateral meetings with judicial leaders from Russia, China, Egypt, Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, Belarus, Kazakhstan, South Africa, Iran, and Uzbekistan. According to the Supreme Court, these meetings will facilitate direct dialogue and exchange of ideas on mutual interests in the judiciary, thereby enhancing judicial cooperation among participating countries.
On the second day of the forum, representatives from BRICS and partner countries will share their views on topics of common interest related to their judicial institutions.
The Supreme Court stated that the main sessions of the forum will focus on four significant themes: the role of mediation in resolving international commercial disputes, challenges in enforcing cross-border mediation awards, the use of AI and digital innovation in the judiciary, and the judiciary’s role in sustainable development and environmental governance.
India’s presidency of BRICS this year is themed ‘Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability,’ reflecting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘people-centered and humanity-first’ approach, which he will present at the 2025 Rio Summit.
