Kathmandu, September 4 (Daily Kiran) : Lakshmi Kumari Sah is filled with joy after her husband, Sanjay Sah, was rescued from the Upper Trishuli 3A hydropower project in Kathmandu. Sanjay, a 30-year-old foreman, and a colleague, Kabir Maherjan, were saved by a joint team of the Nepal Army and Armed Police Force on Friday morning, nine days after devastating floods struck the area.
Sanjay, who is originally from the southern district of Saptari, was trapped inside a tunnel affected by the floods. His wife, Lakshmi, expressed her overwhelming happiness, stating, “The news of my husband’s safe return has brought immense joy to our family. I was at home when I received the news around 8:30 AM on Friday. It has filled our hearts with happiness.”
Lakshmi plans to travel to Kathmandu to reunite with her husband. She shared that the past nine days have been filled with sorrow and anxiety for her and their family.
Prior to the rescue, the Nepal Army reported that they had been tirelessly working to reach those trapped inside the tunnel. The recent floods have claimed 1,259 lives, with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority indicating that 5,053 people remain unaccounted for as of Thursday evening.
The Nepal Army took to social media to celebrate the rescue, stating, “After darkness, life has seen light again. Two individuals have been safely extracted from the tunnel of the Trishuli-3A hydropower project. The rescue operation continues.”
The successful rescue of Sanjay and Kabir has reignited hope that others trapped in the tunnels of affected hydropower projects may also be rescued. The Independent Power Producers Association reported that approximately 945 individuals working at 11 hydropower projects impacted by the floods are still unreachable.
