Hazaribagh, March 30: A violent clash during the Ram Navami celebrations in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, has left two people dead and over 450 injured. The festivities, which included processions for Ram Navami, Dashami, and Ekadashi, were marred by conflicts and disputes between rival groups.
The violence erupted over disagreements related to the procession route, leading to stone-pelting and clashes in various parts of the city. Tragically, one of the deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Abhishek Sharma from the Gwaltolee Chowk area. Reports indicate that he was stabbed in the chest during the procession near Jhanda Chowk. He was rushed to Ranchi for treatment but succumbed to his injuries.
In another incident, a violent altercation occurred in the Gadokhar village of the Katkamsandi block during the Ram Navami procession. The conflict began over a dispute involving DJ performances, which escalated into a physical confrontation. Ram Kumar Sahu, the brother of the village head, was attacked with a sharp weapon and later died from his injuries.
Authorities believe that personal enmities and rivalries among the participants were significant factors behind the violence, rather than religious tensions. The uncontrolled use of high-decibel DJ systems is also considered a major contributor to the unrest.
In response to the situation, the district administration has deployed over 5,000 additional security personnel. The Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police are personally patrolling sensitive areas. Despite prior meetings with the Ram Navami Mahasamiti to establish clear guidelines, the stubbornness of some participants led to these violent incidents. Currently, a tense peace prevails in the city, with security forces conducting flag marches to ensure the safe continuation of remaining processions.
