Bishkek, August 30: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Bishkek on Sunday to attend the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit. He was welcomed at the Manas International Airport by Adilbek Kasymaliev, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers.
During his visit to the Central Asian nation, the Prime Minister will participate in several bilateral meetings. Before embarking on his trip to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, Modi stated that India has been an active and constructive member of the SCO since 2017. He expressed eagerness to advance India’s vision for the region, focusing on security, connectivity, and opportunities while collaborating with fellow members to combat terrorism, separatism, and extremism, which pose threats to peace and stability in the neighborhood and beyond.
Modi also mentioned his anticipation of meeting President Sadyr Japarov of Kyrgyzstan and other SCO leaders, as well as attending the opening ceremony of the sixth World Nomad Games. He emphasized that this event celebrates Central Asia’s rich living heritage, which India holds in high regard.
He expressed confidence that this visit would strengthen India’s strategic partnership in Central Asia, deepen civilizational ties, and promote shared efforts for peace, stability, and prosperity—values central to India’s engagement with the world.
Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Investment remarked that the country hopes Prime Minister Modi’s visit will significantly boost economic relations, investment, and trade between the two nations. Kyrgyzstan is keen to attract more Indian companies in sectors such as infrastructure, renewable energy, tourism, technology, and agro-industry.
He described Modi’s visit as a highly significant event for Kyrgyzstan, stating that it would help elevate cooperation between the two countries to a new level. He also noted that bilateral trade between Kyrgyzstan and India reached approximately $91 million in 2024.
