Prayagraj, May 26: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated on Tuesday that the state’s development journey is progressing uninterrupted, akin to the flow of the Ganges River. He made these remarks during the inauguration of the newly constructed assembly hall of the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation and various development projects.
The Chief Minister emphasized the mantra of ‘Charaveiti-Charaveiti’, noting that Prayagraj has become a remarkable confluence of cultural heritage, spiritual pride, and modern development. Before 2017, events like the Magh Mela and Kumbh were marred by filth, chaos, and disorder, deterring visitors. However, in 2019, under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Kumbh Mela was recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity, granting global recognition to Indian culture and traditions.
He highlighted that during the Kumbh-2019 and Mahakumbh-2025, the double-engine government developed extensive infrastructure in Prayagraj. With proper maintenance, these facilities could become a permanent legacy by the next Kumbh.
The Chief Minister praised the efforts of the municipal corporation and the mayor, stating that heritage has been integrated with development. As preparations for Mahakumbh-2025 begin in early 2024, it was decided that the city would receive a new identity. The 161-year-old municipal building now stands grandly, and a modern assembly hall has been constructed for councilors, with the municipal corporation launching projects worth ₹400 crores. New zonal parks and a series of Shivalk parks are also in development.
He cited Shivalk Park as a successful example of ‘Waste to Wealth’, where 400 tons of waste material were used to create replicas of the twelve Jyotirlingas, attracting many visitors. Such initiatives are giving Prayagraj a new identity.
Previously, the Akshay Vat was not accessible to common devotees, but since 2019, it has been opened for public visits, allowing devotees to also draw water from the Saraswati Koup. The ashram of Maharishi Bharadwaj, which had suffered from encroachments for years, has now been restored to its grandeur.
The Chief Minister referred to Maharishi Bharadwaj as the world’s first Vice-Chancellor, stating that Prayagraj is reclaiming its cultural dignity. Today, the roads in Prayagraj are wider and smarter, marking the city’s new journey as a smart city. The municipal corporation and representatives are working to bring development to every ward and neighborhood.
CM Yogi noted that the conjunction of Ganga Dussehra, the month of Jyeshtha, and Tuesday is a special auspicious occasion. Nine years ago, Prayagraj was plagued by fear, chaos, and mafia rule. Public land was often encroached upon, and development was at a standstill. Now, Prayagraj is completely free from mafia and lawlessness. Women, traders, and citizens can now move freely at any time. Any act of harassment against women will be met with severe consequences. The double-engine government is focused on security, good governance, and prosperity.
He expressed gratitude to the residents of Prayagraj, noting that despite significant inconveniences during the 45 days of the Mahakumbh, there was no public dissent. The entire city felt like it was celebrating a family event. The success of any major event is possible when the public embraces it as their own.
CM Yogi attributed the government’s ability to implement job creation, farmer welfare, and large infrastructure projects to the blessings and support of the people. Today, the Ganga Expressway allows travel from Prayagraj to Delhi in just seven hours. This world-class expressway feels like vehicles are standing still, even at speeds of 120 kilometers per hour. A four-lane bridge over the Ganga River is being constructed at a cost of approximately ₹1000 crores in Harshvardhan’s assembly constituency, with the Fafamau bridge project nearing completion. The inauguration of these major projects is being planned with the participation of Prime Minister Modi.
The Chief Minister assured that many significant projects are still underway in Prayagraj, and the government will continue to advance them. He recalled the blessings of Lord Prayagraj, Akshay Vat, Mother Ganga, and Lord Veni Madhav, stating that Prayagraj’s development journey will continue without pause, deviation, or compromise.
He assured that the state government will fully support every proposal aimed at development. The Chief Minister also released a book highlighting the achievements of the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation over the past three years. He inaugurated various projects worth ₹400 crores and launched the new website of the Prayagraj Mela Authority.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister honored sanitation workers by providing them with kits, which included caps, gloves, boots, masks, and coats.
