Jammu, August 27: A devastating road accident occurred in the Surankot area of Poonch district, Jammu-Kashmir, on Wednesday, resulting in the feared deaths of six individuals and injuries to five others.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed his sorrow on social media platform X, stating that he was deeply saddened by the loss of lives in this tragic incident. He extended his condolences to the affected families and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured. The district administration has been instructed to provide immediate assistance to those impacted.
Senior civil and police officials have arrived at the scene to oversee rescue and relief operations, with local residents also participating in the efforts.
According to officials, the accident took place near the Shendra area of Surankot. While six fatalities are anticipated, five individuals have sustained injuries. The injured were promptly transported to a nearby health center for treatment.

Petrol stations have been advised not to fuel two-wheeler riders without helmets. Another significant issue is stunt driving among youth; officials are canceling the registration certificates of vehicles involved and providing counseling to parents at the traffic control room.
