Lucknow, April 1: Uttar Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister, Brajesh Pathak, announced a united front against dengue and malaria. A special communicable disease control campaign has been launched today. Additionally, a door-to-door awareness initiative will run from April 10 to April 30. These campaigns aim to combat mosquito-borne diseases through the collaboration of 13 departments. Our government is committed to providing excellent healthcare services to the people of the state.
During an event at Balrampur Hospital, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak highlighted that these initiatives, which began in 2018 in just seven districts with the help of 13 departments, have now been expanded to all 75 districts due to their success. The Department of Medical Health and Family Welfare serves as the nodal department, coordinating activities related to the campaign.
ASHA workers and Anganwadi workers are central to the door-to-door initiative. Each year, these workers visit over four crore homes three times to provide quick treatment, prevention messages, and information on environmental and personal hygiene. They also conduct awareness meetings for pregnant women, educate on water purification methods, and engage in mosquito control activities.
Pathak noted a significant decline in cases of encephalitis, with only 694 reported in 2025 compared to 4,724 in 2017. Similarly, cases of Japanese encephalitis dropped from 693 in 2017 to just 63 in 2025. To prevent dengue and chikungunya, 89 laboratories (86 sentinel and 3 apex) are now operational across all 75 districts, providing advanced testing facilities.
The Deputy Chief Minister flagged off awareness rallies, promotional vehicles, and fogging machines, stating that positive results from this campaign are evident. There has been a notable reduction in mosquito-borne diseases such as Japanese encephalitis, kala-azar, malaria, and chikungunya, with cases of JE approaching zero. He urged the public to make this campaign a people’s movement, ensuring no stagnant water accumulates around homes and maintaining regular cleanliness by disposing of old containers, tires, pots, and other water-holding items.
