Uttar Pradesh Governor Directs Colleges to Join One Nation One Subscription Scheme

Lucknow, May 8: The Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Anandiben Patel, emphasized the need to strengthen research, innovation, and quality-based teaching in higher education institutions. She has directed universities and colleges to connect with the ‘One Nation One Subscription’ scheme.

This initiative will provide students, researchers, and educators with free access to world-class research journals and academic materials, thereby accelerating research and innovation.

The Governor chaired a review meeting on Friday at the Gandhi Auditorium in Jan Bhawan, attended by principals from government and funded colleges affiliated with Chaudhary Charan Singh University. During the meeting, various college principals presented their institutions’ academic activities, innovations, and development projects.

Patel stated that education should not be limited to the curriculum. Students should also gain practical, research-based, and life-relevant knowledge. She instructed that students should be encouraged to visit libraries, study manuscripts and rare books, and explore historical and cultural sites.

She suggested that students’ experiences and research-based articles following these visits should be promoted, and outstanding work should be recognized during graduation ceremonies. The Governor stressed the importance of organizing academic excursions at local, national, and international levels for universities and colleges.

Patel also mentioned that students should take the initiative in arranging these excursions to develop leadership skills, management abilities, and a sense of responsibility.

Furthermore, she directed colleges to introduce employment-oriented and skill development courses, stating that education should empower students to become self-reliant and enhance their job prospects. Practical education linking students to production processes, labor, and society is also essential.

The Governor encouraged colleges to launch tree plantation campaigns modeled after ‘Miyawaki Forests,’ planting fruit-bearing and shade trees while promoting environmental conservation. Additionally, she called for online class facilities at universities for colleges facing a shortage of teachers.

Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay noted that under the Governor’s guidance, positive changes are evident in the state’s higher education system, with universities achieving better national grades. He urged colleges to promote innovation, skill development, and employment-oriented education.
