New Delhi, June 20: Vinita Soren, hailing from Jharkhand, has become a symbol of courage and determination by reaching the summit of Mount Everest. Overcoming poverty and limited resources, she made history as the first tribal woman to conquer the world’s highest peak. At just 25 years old, Vinita’s journey to this incredible height is a testament to her hard work and indomitable spirit. By touching the highest point on Earth, she has proven that dreams know no social boundaries.
Born on June 21, 1987, in the village of Kesorsora in the Seraikela Kharsawan district, Vinita grew up in a modest tribal family. Despite facing poverty and limited opportunities, she dared to dream big. Her life began like that of many tribal girls, confined to working in fields with minimal education and aspirations. However, Vinita’s dreams soared higher than Everest itself.
In her village and surrounding areas, careers like teaching or nursing were considered the only viable options for girls. But Vinita had a different vision. Before achieving her Everest dream, she dedicated seven years to rigorous training. During this time, she learned that mountaineering is not just about physical strength; it also tests mental resilience, courage, and determination. She faced numerous challenges amid harsh cold and snowfall, often feeling that the journey had no end. Yet, her passion and relentless spirit propelled her to the peak of the icy mountain.
Vinita first met Bachendri Pal in 2004, who inspired her to pursue a career in mountaineering. Bachendri Pal, the first Indian woman to summit Mount Everest, provided Vinita with essential training. Coming from a tribal and farming background, Vinita initially struggled with the idea of becoming a mountaineer. For her, stepping out of her home felt as daunting as climbing Everest, but her family supported her, encouraging her to move forward.
On March 20, 2012, Vinita began her journey from Jamshedpur under the ‘Eco Everest Spring Expedition’ with two companions. On May 26, 2012, at 6:50 AM, Vinita and her teammates Meghlal Mahto and Rajendra Singh Pal hoisted the Indian flag atop Mount Everest, marking a historic achievement.
In addition to her Everest success, Vinita has participated in various adventurous expeditions. She was part of the Indian Women’s Thar Desert Expedition team, which covered nearly 2,000 kilometers from Bhuj in Gujarat to the Wagah Border in Punjab in just 30 days. Vinita Soren’s success is not merely a personal triumph; it serves as an inspiration for tribal women and youth across the country. She has demonstrated that even the toughest circumstances cannot hinder strong willpower and hard work.
