New Delhi, June 20: On the occasion of West Bengal Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his warm wishes to the people of Bengal. He emphasized that the central government will work alongside the West Bengal government to fulfill the dreams and aspirations of its citizens. Modi also prayed for the progress and prosperity of the state and its people.
In a post on the social media platform X, he wrote, “On West Bengal Day, I extend heartfelt greetings to my brothers and sisters in West Bengal. This day celebrates a state that has profoundly shaped India’s history through its contributions to literature, music, art, spirituality, science, commerce, social reform, and many other fields. West Bengal has enriched the national consciousness of India in countless ways.”
He further noted, “Today, June 20, holds great significance in West Bengal’s history. It is the day that ensured West Bengal remained an integral part of India. The role of Syama Prasad Mukherjee was invaluable in this regard. This year (2026), we also celebrate the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Mukherjee. The central government will collaborate with the West Bengal government to fulfill the dreams and aspirations of the people. I pray for the progress and prosperity of West Bengal.”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also conveyed his wishes to the residents of the state on West Bengal Day. He highlighted Bengal’s rich culture and spirituality, noting its significant contributions to nation-building through the Bhakti movement, the freedom struggle, and the Renaissance. He stated, “This land of great personalities like Swami Vivekananda, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, Rabindranath Tagore, Subhas Chandra Bose, and Syama Prasad Mukherjee is moving towards reclaiming its heritage and glory under Modi’s leadership. I wish for the welfare and prosperity of all residents from Maa Durga.”
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari also congratulated the people of West Bengal, calling June 20 a pivotal day in the state’s history that determined the fate of the Bengali people. He remarked in his post on X, “For the first time in decades, our nationalist government, inspired by the great ideals of ‘Bharat Kesari’ Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee, is officially celebrating ‘West Bengal Day.’ This acknowledges the true and historical events associated with the formation of the state. The shameful conspiracy to erase our history has come to an end. The dark chapter of vote-bank politics and appeasement is over.”
Adhikari expressed regret that the previous government attempted to suppress the significance of this sacred day solely to protect its vote bank and engage in shameless appeasement politics. He stated that there was a deliberate attempt to erase the struggle for Bengali identity from the pages of history, so that people would forget their roots and the true heroes who built West Bengal. However, he asserted that the truth cannot be suppressed forever. “By correcting that historical mistake, our government has restored the true history of Bengal to its rightful honor,” he added.
The Chief Minister concluded by stating that the Bengali people will always be indebted to Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee. On this special day, we pay deep tribute to this great politician, asserting that without his visionary leadership, West Bengal would not exist on the map of India today.
