New Delhi, June 20: The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is set to commence today. The first group of pilgrims will begin their spiritual journey from the Nathu La Pass in Sikkim. This year, a total of 500 pilgrims will undertake the journey via the Nathu La route.
The pilgrims are organized into ten groups of 50 participants each. To ensure better coordination and necessary assistance during the journey, each group will be accompanied by a liaison officer and a medical assistant.
Before the journey, India’s Ambassador to China, Vikram Doraiswami, warmly welcomed the pilgrims in a video message, providing essential information related to the trip.
The Indian Embassy in Beijing shared a message on ‘X’, stating, “The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, organized in collaboration with the Chinese government by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), will depart from Indian territory on June 20. The embassy team warmly welcomes all pilgrims traveling to the sacred Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar through both government and private channels.”
The embassy also noted that Ambassador Vikram Doraiswami and his team recently visited key locations along the travel routes from Sikkim and Uttarakhand to the Tibet Autonomous Region to review preparations and arrangements. This review included both the Nathu La Pass route in Sikkim and the Lipulekh Pass route in Uttarakhand.
In his message, Ambassador Doraiswami mentioned that pilgrims passing through Nathu La will be welcomed by Chinese customs and immigration officials before being transported by bus to Yadong County. He also provided information about the itinerary, accommodation, food arrangements, and currency exchange services available along the route.
The embassy stated that additional videos and travel advisories will be released in the coming days to assist pilgrims during their journey. It expressed, “We wish for all pilgrims to have a safe, fulfilling, and spiritually enriching journey.”
The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra holds significant religious importance for Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and followers of Bon religion. Mount Kailash is believed to be the abode of Lord Shiva, while Lake Mansarovar is considered one of the holiest lakes in the world.
