Chennai, June 20: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued a warning for heavy rainfall and strong winds in five districts of Tamil Nadu. Additionally, moderate rainfall is expected in various parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal over the next week.
According to the weather department, an atmospheric trough currently extends from East Vidarbha to Tamil Nadu, passing through Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. This weather system is likely to enhance rainfall activities in Tamil Nadu in the coming days.
The RMC has specifically warned of heavy rainfall for the districts of Nilgiris, Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, and Krishnagiri on Saturday. These areas may experience torrential rain accompanied by strong winds.
Moreover, moderate rainfall and gusty winds are anticipated in the districts of the Western Ghats, the Cauvery Delta region, and some parts of northern Tamil Nadu. The weather department has advised residents in areas prone to flooding and landslides to remain vigilant.
The weather center has also forecast heavy rainfall for the hilly regions of Tirunelveli district, as well as Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Dindigul, Theni, and Kanyakumari districts. Favorable weather conditions in these areas are expected to lead to increased rainfall.
In Chennai, the sky will generally be overcast throughout the day, with the weather department predicting light to moderate rain in some parts of the city. While no major weather disruptions are expected in the state capital, intermittent rain may provide some relief from the prevailing humid conditions.
Meteorologists indicate that this weather situation is part of a broader monsoon system affecting South India. Due to the atmospheric trough and increasing moisture availability, rainfall activities in Tamil Nadu are likely to persist over the next several days.
Meanwhile, temperatures in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are expected to remain around normal during the upcoming week. The weather department does not anticipate a rise in daytime temperatures. The overcast skies and sporadic rainfall will keep the weather relatively pleasant in most areas.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have urged the public to adhere to official updates and advisories issued by the weather department.
